METALS RISE: Copper for December delivery jumped 8.95 cents, or nearly 3 percent, to close at $3.4635 per pound. December palladium gained $15, or 2 percent, to close at $662.80 an ounce. January platinum rose $19.40, or 1 percent, to $1,646.70 an ounce
EUROPEAN HOPES: Traders were encouraged by news that Italy and Greece were moving closer to forming new governments. If the European financial crisis is contained, it could boost economic growth and demand for raw materials.
CROPS DOWN: Corn for December delivery dropped nearly 2 percent to settle at $6.385 per bushel. December wheat lost 3.25 cents to finish at $6.1675 per bushel.
