The women of my church recently threw a baby shower for our new little one, due any day now. We?ve only been part of this church for a few months, and yet I feel so incredibly loved on and welcomed as part of the church family.
And look at the middle picture ? see all those lovely women? Isn?t this little man the luckiest to have three big sisters, two grandmas, and two great-grandmas who already love him so much?
We played the ribbon game, where everyone cut off a length of ribbon according to what they thought would fit around my belly. No one got it right, everyone?s ribbon was way too long! And even as big as this baby is, too! I must appear much bigger to the eye, including my own!
For London, Noelle & Adeline, this baby shower helped make everything about our expanding family real for them. They knew of course there was going to be a baby brother added to our family, but for little ones, the months can seem never-ending, and in some ways they lost interest as we?ve been waiting for him to grow. But being part of things at the shower, where they got to see all the presents for the baby and the excitement of others for their new little brother , and then bringing everything home and helping to cut off the tags and wash the little clothes and put them away in the drawers sealed the reality of it for them.
I think it is especially Adeline who is proud and excited to be a big sister, taking care of her little brother. One of the gifts I received from a kindred spirit were two vintage story books which are now out of print. The stories are of big sisters welcoming a new baby to their family, and Adeline has brought those books to me almost every day since to read over and over and over.
