An affirmation is an statement or phrase that means something personal to you and conveys a desire that you would like to realize. It is always good to come up with a few positive affirmations for yourself to use on a daily basis. It could be anything from 'I am in superb health,' to 'Today is going to be the best day ever.'

The reason that we need affirmations in our lives is that they help us to reprogram our minds for the better. Repeating your affirmations to yourself several times a day will help you to replace those negative thoughts with new ideas which are positive and constructive.

In order to make our affirmations work for us is by repetition and more repetition. Practice your affirmations continuously for two to three weeks, as this is how long it takes for something to become a habit. A good way to use affirmations is to write them down on cards or slips of paper and carry them around with you. You can also place some up in strategic places so you can constantly view them and remind yourself to use them. You can even try recording your affirmations and listen to them in your car as you travel.

Believe it or not, you can use affirmations for your health problems. Because people who are ill spend so much time thinking about their illness and how badly they feel, it in fact ends up making them feel even worse. Ill people should rather try repeating to themselves things like, 'I feel strong and healthy today,' or 'I am healed.' Replacing all the negative thoughts with positive ones will actually help the body to heal faster.

The beauty of affirmations, is that you can use them to achieve anything that your heart desires. This could be anything from achieving success, going on an overseas trip, repairing a bad relationship, making more sales or getting a promotion.

Affirmations are nothing more than forcing yourself to think positive thoughts, and this is why the effects can only be beneficial. Affirmations can work for anybody regardless of looks, gender, religion or background. The only people who need to practice caution with affirmations are those individuals with serious mental conditions such as schizophrenia or manic depression, as these types of personalities might just cause themselves additional problems using affirmations.
