Statement of Secretary Purisima on being Euromoney Finance ...

I would like to thank Euromoney for this recognition. More than anything else, this is a testament to how far the Philippine economic story has turned around under the leadership of President Aquino.

President Aquino?s unwavering commitment to good governance has brought significant gains to the Philippine economy. Good news are plentiful these days?macroeconomic stability, strengthened fiscal position, increased investments in social and economic services, and improved competitiveness among other things.

In addition, President Aquino?s leadership has inspired several distinguished men and women to join government, and without their hard work the Philippine story would not be as remarkable. It has been a tremendous honor to join them in this journey and I share this recognition with them. I?d like to especially recognize Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares who has the unenviable task of collecting almost a trillion pesos in taxes to finance government priorities, as well as Budget Secretary Butch Abad who has the equally unenviable task of selecting which among the many priorities we will finance.

Lastly, I share this recognition with all my colleagues at the Department of Finance family. I am only one in an enterprise of many. It is the hard work of each and every one that enables us to reach greater heights.
