Will Apple?s Next Generation iPhone Cause The Decline In Android Phones?

In a report sent to clients by?Needham?s Charlie Wolf seems to convey his opinion that the next generation iPhone will be what causes the downfall of Android. It?s probably been said many times before, much like how everyone thought that Verizon customers will be dropping their Android phones like bad news in exchange for the CDMA version of the iPhone 4, which was hardly the case. However Charlie Wolf does make several good and solid reasoned arguments.

One of the reasons he thinks that Apple will soon overthrow Android?s dominance in the smartphone market was first indicated around March 2011 where Apple gained?12.3 percentage points to 29.5% in the March quarter while Android?s share in the U.S. fell from 52.4% to 49.5%, which we?re guessing is thanks to Verizon?s iPhone 4 which further increased the amount of buyers for Apple?s iPhone 4.

He also claims that the reason the iPhone 4S/5 was delayed was because Apple was going to launch both CDMA and GSM versions of the iPhone simultaneously and by releasing in June it would be unfair to Verizon users who had only recently purchased the iPhone 4 months earlier. However despite all of that, Android is still holding number one position and with the slew of upcoming Android devices like the speculated Nexus 3, it seems highly unlikely Apple?s next generation iPhone will overthrown them from their position, unless of course Apple surprises us with a device that?s more than just a rehash of the iPhone 4.
